This article essentially duplicates the one on general valuations, and that article also has more examples on the topic (in fact, all examples presented there, apart from a sentence on <math>\C_p</math> that I added, are on discrete valuations). Better to have more content in one place, since [[Discrete valuation ring]] and [[Absolute value (algebra)]] are additional closely adjacent topics.
