Is this the same as tamriyeh?

[edit source]

I have just created the article for tamriyeh and I intend to merge this into it, because tamriyeh seems to be a more general concept, with shamishi being one instance of it.

The descriptions of both foods sounds completely identical, and the visuals are also identical:

Not to mention, the history and geography overlap almost enough for this to be a circle.

But I cannot find a single source that mentions both tamriyeh and shamishi in the same context, so I am not sure if merging is wise here, that said, this is common in former Ottoman territory, where the same dish is found under 20 names. 2kbfloppadisk (talk) 12:14, 12 January 2026 (UTC)

2kbfloppadisk, is this something you're still interested in? No one else has expressed an opinion, so you should be good to carry out a merge. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 05:08, 15 March 2026 (UTC)
I am, but like EasternShah said, I don't know if it makes sense to merge without a source that connects the two either by confirming a common historical origin or by abstracting over the different varieties of the same dish.
I have already researched this to the best of my abilities, so I don't think I will be able to provide a source anytime soon. 2kbfloppadisk (talk) 19:50, 15 March 2026 (UTC)
It would be WP:SYNTH to merge without a source that connects them, but are you sure you cannot find anything? I found this [1]. I think it might be hard to find results because both Shamishi and Tamriyyeh are not native English words and so they may be transliterated differently. Nonetheless, we need sources comparing/linking them before they can be merged. Sahib-e-Qiran, EasternShah 17:51, 15 March 2026 (UTC)
