Pointing out bias in this Wiki page especially in this paragraph below| edit request on 24 October 2024

[edit source]

Template:Edit extended-protected

Here is the paragraph in question: [During the days leading to 10 January 2019, local militias and regional forces started building trenches and preparing to attack Qemant people in Metemma. From 15:00 on 10 January 2019 to 13:00 on 11 January 58 Qemant people were killed in the massacre in Metemma using guns, grenades, stones and by burning houses. Amnesty stated that a unit of the Amhara police special force wore insignia. The Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) in Metemma initially refused to intervene on the grounds that they didn't have orders to do so. The massacre ended when the ENDF intervened on the afternoon of 11 January. On 29 September 2019, Fano killed and burnt four members of a family in Azezo in revenge for the killing of an Amhara youth. A cycle of vengeance attacks continued for several days. Fano went "home to home attacking Qemant residents".[1]]

1. The source article from Amnesty titles this section as "an internal clash (የαŠ₯ርሡ α‰ αˆαˆ΅ αŒαŒα‰΅)" between Qemant and Amhara forces. However, this Wiki reports it as an "attack" by Fano on "Qemant people". It is a well-known fact that there is a Qemant militia backed by Tigray People Liberation Front (TPLF) is operating in the area, hence the title "an internal clash (የαŠ₯ርሡ α‰ αˆαˆ΅ αŒαŒα‰΅)" in the source.

2. In this Wiki, there is no mention of the Qemant militia, thus compounding the bias stated in #1 while depriving the reader of proper context for the clash.

3. The source article from Amnesty clearly implicates not only Fano but also government militias and officials in the "attack". However, this Wiki falls short of implicating the government forces by saying "local militias and regional forces started building trenches and preparing to attack Qemant people" and attributes the act of attacking solely to Fano. A question (a hole in the story) arises here: why would they build trenches if it was not a clash between armed forces including Qemant militia? The is exhibiting bias and rush to implicate Fano in genocide/ethnic cleansing which I think Wiki should not be accessory to.

4. This portion of the source article from Amnesty indicates that it is using a report from government police station as a source. However, it is not stated in this Wiki that Amnesty's report did not independently verify this information or that the government’s information could be potentially wrong or politically motivated due to the adversarial nature of the Fano-government relationship. Again, this is another example of confirmation bias possibly by the editor of the Wiki or the source.

TPLF and Fano: Federal Government alleges an alliance.

[edit source]

As seen in extensive reporting, and the Fano Insurgency page, the TPLF has been accused by international parties and the Ethiopian Federal Government of supporting Fano. This should be included with an (alleged) tag, in the infobox. PlebeianTribune (talk) 13:27, 13 October 2025 (UTC)

Merge proposal

[edit source]

I feel as though List of Fano militia factions should be merged into this page due to new info (Amhara factions have unified into the AFNM as of January 2026) and because all the information on that page could easily be incorporated into this article. IdioticAnarchist (talk) 20:05, 28 January 2026 (UTC)

Support merger, no size reasons for the same topic to have two separate articles. Thebiguglyalien (talk) πŸ›Έ 02:50, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
Oppose The article Fano (militia) itself is oversized and significantly expanded due to largely paragraphs and update information. The faction list is another standalone because that produces a lot of paramilitary and military factions potentially and it fits to this article. AsteriodX (talk) 19:07, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
The Fano (militia) article is currently 1,785 words long. An article isn't considered "oversized" until it's closer to 10,000 words. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 20:53, 12 March 2026 (UTC)
