Confusing lead

[edit source]

Current lead second para is confusing. It starts: The Saudi Arabian-led military intervention aimed at restoring Hadi's government with several proto-state entities claiming to govern Yemen. But the reader hasn’t yet been told who Hadi is, and doesn’t know when this is about.

edit request: replace first sentence of second para as follows:

In September 2014, during the Yemeni civil war, Houthi insurgents ousted president Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi from the capital, Sanaa. A Saudi Arabian-led military intervention in 2015 aimed at restoring Hadi's government, but several proto-state entities claim to govern Yemen.

Infobox

[edit source]

@Abo Yemen Please clarify your statements about your revert to my infobox edit. Where's the discussion with multiple editors opposing such an edit? I don't see anything on the talk page or its archives. Evaporation123 (talk) 00:06, 20 June 2025 (UTC)

Firstly, sorry for the tone of the revert. I confused you with @Gorgonopsi who was trying to edit war the infobox's way into this article. There isn't a discussion but if you open the page's history you'll see that multiple people have removed the infobox since it is exactly identical to the one at Yemen which already mentions the houthis in it 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 07:58, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
Interesting. Maybe the Yemen infobox shouldn't mention Houthi leaders as "disputing" government offices at all. After all there is only one Yemeni government that is internationally recognized. But I suppose that's an issue only for that article's talk page. Evaporation123 (talk) 03:56, 21 June 2025 (UTC)
I dont see good reasons why there shouldnt be an infobox. If it has the same information then so be it. JaxsonR (talk) 01:12, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
@JaxsonR this article is about the territory controlled by the houthis. Why would there be an infobox about a state here? 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 02:02, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
Most territory pages are about "countries" that control a large amount of territory but do not have well known name. JaxsonR (talk) 02:20, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
i.e Zapatista territory, no well known name but they still have a box. JaxsonR (talk) 02:21, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
Apart from the fact that your argument is pretty much WP:OCON, there should be no infobox on that article, in fact, that should NOT even be called an infobox since it's devoid of info 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 04:58, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
A little late but i dont think that really matters, if it is the same it is the same. JaxsonR (talk) 15:24, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
How is the territory governed? What's the population and or symbols used by the governing body of that territory? It's not Makhnovshchina. Remikipedia (talk) Remikipedia (talk) 07:51, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
well since you know what it is, then tell us (Preferably, using reliable sources, and explaining it in the article) 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 08:36, 24 November 2025 (UTC)

Houthi-controlled territory of YemenHouthi-controlled Yemen – Shorter. Super Ψ Dro 18:23, 22 June 2025 (UTC)

We could go even shorter with Houthi Yemen instead 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 18:25, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
Not opposed. Super Ψ Dro 19:18, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
Support Houthi Yemen which is similar to Zapatista territories. Although this does not seem to be consistent with some other pages, I don't think it adds any ambiguity. Easternsahara (talk) 21:41, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
Support nom per WP:CONCISE, I can only find a couple sources using Houthi Yemen, a descriptive title seems better here Kowal2701 (talk) 19:32, 22 June 2025 (UTC)

Support. I also think Houthi Yemen is a better term as they essentially control the state of Yemen despite being unrecognized, like with the Taliban in Afghanistan. We could count the numbers of editors who support Houthi Yemen and take that into account as well. Idk2716639 (talk) 12:45, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
Support Houthi Yemen for conciseness. Paprikaiser (talk) 21:51, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
Comment I think this should now be immediately closed per WP:SNOW as everyone supports it. FujaFula (talk) 00:23, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
Template:Question If we have a Houthi Yemen article, should we have an STC Yemen article too? Thepharoah17 (talk) 09:42, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
no, because:
1. The stc is part of Yemen's internationally recognized govt
2. They dont have state institutions that are independent from the internationally recognized govt's institutions (Unlike the Houthis, who have everything from an independent currency to state borders)
3. They didn't even establish the "southern state" that they've been advocating for since 2017 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 09:46, 25 June 2025 (UTC)

Houthi YemenHouthi-controlled Yemen – Many people seem to confuse what this article is about (the areas of Yemen under Houthi control) with a hypothetical quasi-state in Yemen 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 12:57, 25 September 2025 (UTC)

Why does the lede not mention the Houthi claim on government

[edit source]

The lede should mention the fact that the Houthi Movement (Anshar Allah) under the SPC claim to be the legitimate government of Yemen. PlebeianTribune (talk) 20:59, 6 October 2025 (UTC)

There is no "LNA-controlled Libya article" so i think merging them is the best solution.

Related to #Infobox. If you compare it to other rival governments Government of Peace and Unity, Syrian Salvation Government, Syrian Interim Government & Government of National Stability all have normal country-based articles others have government articles. Braganza (talk) 18:05, 27 December 2025 (UTC)

Oppose - WP:OTHERSTUFF Is not a valid argument for a merge. One article is about a government body, and the other one is about territory. FWIW, Zapatista Army of National Liberation and Zapatista territories are separate articles 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 10:28, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
i am not proposing to merge Houthis with these like you imply with EZLN Braganza (talk) 22:42, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
I am aware of what the proposal is 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 09:59, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
Just commenting that the Houthis had controlled parts of Yemen prior to the civil war. Would their inclusion in this article be appropriate? Hsnkn (talk) 17:18, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
  • Oppose per Abo Yemen. And Houthi controlls Northern Yemen before SPC's formation.
Panam2014 (talk) 04:40, 31 December 2025 (UTC)
You do realize that there was an internim governent? See: Supreme Revolutionary Committee JaxsonR (talk) 00:38, 11 January 2026 (UTC)
An article about a govt is not the same thing as an article about territorial control 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 03:35, 17 January 2026 (UTC)
Support - We dont need two articles. The shorter Supreme Revolutionary Committee could also be merged into this. JaxsonR (talk) 00:35, 11 January 2026 (UTC)
Weak support Makes sense to go simpler on quasi-states. Artoria2e5 🌉 03:28, 17 January 2026 (UTC)
Oppose - These two subjects seem distinct enough from each other to warrant separate articles, I don't think merging them would simplify them. The two articles don't seem entirely synonymous either, Houthis are the military/political group, Houthi-controlled Yemen is the territory the Houthis control, while the Supreme Political Council is the Houthi government/executive, can't imagine why they need to be merged purely because the same isn't done for Libya. BAABNRRBBORB1 (talk) 10:41, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
Like i already said ti Abo Yemen, i am not saying that Houthis should be merged here. I am explicitly talking about the territory & the government. Braganza (talk) 14:16, 4 March 2026 (UTC)

Closer comment: can I clarify what precise merge is under discussion here? And will the editor answering my question be so kind as to follow the procedure outlined at WP:M2 so that we might get more discussion? Iseult Δx talk to me 07:14, 11 March 2026 (UTC)
